allah - las - 'Don't you forget it'

Allah-Las is an American rock band from Los Angeles, California formed in 2008. Lately I have been listening to their music non stop. I really love the retro 60's sounds they are producing, quite atmospheric. The band consists of Matthew Correia (percussion), Spencer Dunham (bass), Miles Michaud (vocals, guitar), and Pedrum Siadatian (lead guitar). When the band got together, they produces a few albums, I really think they are worth acquiring..

Allah-Las completed their first tour in 2011, up the California coast from San Diego to San Francisco. They toured the East Coast and Europe during 2012, where their first show in London, UK was described by one critic as "a blissful 45 minutes on a cold night". They will be touring North America with Black Angels in September this year 2013, and will also complete a solo European tour. They are currently planning a series of dates in Asia, and here in Australia for the late summer at the end of the year, and early int he new year. If they are around Melbourne, I will certainly go and check them out live. I really like this type of music, very tastefully done, they are a tight unit. Miles Michaud is a great singer, good harmonies by the rest of the bands members too.

lumerians

Lumerians is a San Francisco Bay Area based five-member band which has a psychedelic "mind bender" space rock sound. I particularly love this song, and a few of their other numbers, quite pleasant to listen to. It's a fantastic instrumental track, which keeps you interested from start to finish. The group is notable for performances characterized by "transcendent live video projections" and having "incredible visuals," according to several music critics. One critic described the band as "Oakland's prize pony in the Bay Area, gloom-folk horse race". The sound has been compared to Krautrock with overtones of 1960's music. Hope you like the sound this band produces in the video above.

grandchildren the orchestral pop band

Grandchildren is an orchestral pop band from Philadelphia. Originating as a recording project that fused folk songs with sampled beats, the band evolved into a small orchestra known for its high energy live performances featuring multi-instrumentalist swapping. Grandchildren released their debut album Everlasting in 2010 and have since toured with Man Man, Seabear, and O'Death. 'Saturn Returns' the above video, is one of their songs, and I think it is terrific. Will certainly be getting a hold of their most recent material, they are becoming a class act with their fantastic live performances.

Black springs - silver ship

Black Springs emit a shiny, spiraling, multi- coloured, wildly undulating sonic vibration of  psychedelic sun drenched country tinged barnyard indie/surf/60's caveman garage rock, with delicate lashings of droning dreamy guitar licks. This band I find interesting, they draw you in with their dreamy tunes, and this track 'Silver Ship' is no exception. The video, is a collection of animated pictures, depicting? well I suppose it's left to the imagination of the viewer.

the orange alabaster mushroom

The Orange Alabaster Mushroom is a one-man band project by Greg Watson. The video above shows a bit of footage of Johnny Depp and his sidekick, in one of the psychedelic drug movies he made not so long ago. Ontario-based singer/songwriter Greg Watson is the Orange Alabaster Mushroom. While he was a member of the 'Fiends' (not the Los Angeles punk group, but a group of Ottawa-based garage rockers), Watson began recording his own, more psychedelically influenced solo material in early 1991. I find his music quite retro of the 60's psychedelic scene. Although Watson continued his home recordings for a number of years and even placed a few on obscure psych compilations, the first Orange Alabaster Mushroom release was a four-track EP, The Psychedelic Bedroom, in 1996. That EP, which included the theme song/statement of intent "We Are the Orange Alabaster Mushroom," wasn't followed up for nearly three years, until the single "The Slug," backed with "Ethel Tripped a Mean Gloss," appeared in 1999. The limited-edition LP compilation Space and Time: A Compendium of the Orange Alabaster Mushroom was released in 2000. A very original album worth purchasing, if you can locate it in obscure music shops. The songs like the one above 'Tree Pie' from that album, are all interesting, and the album has wonderful colourful 60's artwork. Certainly I admire these unique home based recorded tracks, from truly an unusual retro artist.
